Nearly 100 Scottish contracts have been awarded as part of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) project off the north-east coast.
At a community consultation at Aberdeen Maritime Museum yesterday, developer Vattenfall outlined the Swedish company’s plans and record to date.
Vattenfall turbine package manager Kevin Metcalfe confirmed the contract total so far.
He also said his firm wanted to hire “as locally as we can” during the construction phase.
He said: “We’ve sourced two local engineers so far and Vattenfall want to hire as locally as we can. This is a really exciting and innovative project which will bring a positive change to the local community.”
Vattenfall has signed contracts with companies across the north-east, including a “significant” deal with Peterhead harbour, but the firm refused to disclose the overall value.
Mr Metcalfe said: “Vattenfall is committed to maximising the benefits the project can bring to the north-east and Scotland. A considerable amount of expenditure has been made on this project throughout its development, and this will continue.
“Contract awards span from investing in property leases, technical surveys and installation work – both on and offshore – to helping to facilitate local supply chain opportunities.
“The project also includes a £3million community investment fund for the North-east which will provide £150,000 a year for the operational lifespan of the project and we are actively encouraging local people for their ideas on how to get the most out of the fund.”
EOWDC project director Adam Ezzamel said: “A considerable amount of expenditure has been made on this project throughout its development, and this will continue.
