The first turbine foundation for Ørsted’s huge Hornsea Two offshore wind development in the Southern North Sea has been installed.
The Danish renewables firm shared the news, along with what appears to be a picture of a section of the turbine being lowered into place on the subsea structure, on Twitter.
The 165-turbine Hornsea Two development will be the biggest in the world upon completion and is scheduled to become fully operational in 2022.
Located around 89 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast, adjacent to Hornsea One, it will have an installed capacity of 1.4 gigawatts, enough to power 1.3 million homes in the UK.
Energy generated by the Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines will be brought ashore at Horseshoe Point in Lincolnshire, whereby it will be fed into the National Grid.
First foundation installed at Hornsea 2 in the UK!
Once completed in 2022, the #offshorewind farm will surpass its predecessor, Hornsea 1, and be able to generate enough clean electricity to power 1.3 million UK homes.
