A digital solution for materials selection in oil and gas is now at the fingertips of users across the industry.
A team of experts at Oil and Gas Corrosion Ltd (OGC) have developed a new software as a service to allow users to assess the operating conditions of wells, pipelines, and process equipment to predict corrosion rates, calculate expected acidity and confirm whether carbon steel is suitable. Alloyselect is a new app that has been developed by a team of experts to empower engineers in the industry by helping them to choose the correct material for assets.
The team behind the app development is led by Ivan Gutierrez, CEO of OGC and a national expert recognised by the British Standards Institution, International Organization for Standardization and International Association of Oil and Gas Producers.
“Our team developed alloyselect as a digital solution to allow our client base to access expertise in materials and corrosion on a software as a service (SAAS) model,” Ivan Gutierrez says. “This basically means we pour our knowledge and experience into an artificial intelligence system and hang it on the cloud so you can access it from anywhere and at anytime”
The SAAS based cloud services model offers the industry significant efficiencies and cost savings, with multiple users having simultaneous access from different platforms including iOS, Android and Windows.
“We currently have individual clients as well as corporate users. Companies in Norway, UK and the USA use our digital solution to select materials for different applications; our corporate users include gas lift manufacturers, oil and gas operators and piping designers. They benefit from a customised version with a flexible subscription to our digital platform at a fraction of our competitor’s price. What makes alloyselect stand out from any other corrosion software is that users can evaluate sour service conditions with the confidence that our expertise provides” says Ivan Gutierrez, who is a member of the NACE MR0175 oversight committee.
“SAAS has the benefit of providing a digital solution to anyone with internet access, whether it be phone, tablet or PC, without requiring complicated license arrangements or USB keys. Two years ago, we compiled our knowledge into a digital solution by investing in resources to develop an app for the industry, and now our clients are reaping the benefits”, said Ivan Gutierrez. OGC continues to develop digital solutions for clients in the energy industry.
