Reused and repurposed products and materials are concepts associated with a circular economy, and a circular economy is associated with the green recovery of our nation following the challenging events of this year. If we, as a nation and as an industry, are to meet our carbon emission reduction targets in the coming years, then we must act now.
For John Lawrie, a green recovery means enabling both our suppliers and customers to play a significant role in facilitating a reduction in the general consumption of natural resources and the use of energy in general. By being committed to repurposing as much of the material we receive into our yards as we can, we are significantly contributing to this green recovery, and do so across multiple sectors.
For example, we repurpose steel pipe from oil and gas as piling in construction, as well as repurposing wire rope and chain as weights and ballasts for fish pens in the aquaculture industry.
We are committed to building a circular economy for a positive future that supports not only the growth and sustainability of the sectors within which we work but for the health of our environment for future generations to come. We not only offer a service of managing waste metals ethically and responsibly, but we do so in a manner that is laying the foundations for how to do so sustainably for the future.
On a recent moorings decommissioning project 73.5% of materials were repurposed and 19.7% was recycled. The remaining materials were directed to a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) where further material could be segregated and recycled. Our processing methods result in high recovery and recycling rates for a wide range of materials, in many cases up to 100%.
John Lawrie is an industrial metals reuse, repurpose and recycling specialist creating value for its suppliers and clients as they work towards net zero targets.
