A new ECITB postgraduate training programme to prepare the next generation of industry leaders with the knowledge and skills to deliver the energy transition is underway.
The Energy Transition Technology Leadership programme is a joint collaboration by the ECITB, industry employers, the Strathclyde University and Robert Gordon University Aberdeen. Designed for professional graduate and apprentice engineers in the engineering construction industry, the course introduces the innovative technologies, organisational strategies and business models that will underpin net zero.
ECITB Chief Executive Chris Claydon explains the aim is to prepare industry leaders and managers with the knowledge and skills required to support the energy transition.
“This is a very exciting new training programme developed in partnership with both universities and industry, and we are delighted to welcome the first cohort of 30 students at the end of September,” he said.
“Scotland is very much at the forefront of the energy transition and so the University of Strathclyde and Robert Gordon University are in an excellent position to offer this course. We want to equip industry professionals with the knowledge they need to successfully navigate their teams and companies through net zero and respond to new market opportunities,” added Chris Claydon.
The first cohort includes employees of international oilfield service provider Petrofac, who will, along with their tutors, develop a personalised training plan based on their professional background and future aspirations.
Alex Robertson, senior project manager at Petrofac, said: “As well as harnessing the sophisticated engineering and project management skills we have honed in oil and gas, Petrofac is actively developing the new skills and capacity required to deliver the next generation of energy infrastructure.
“The ECITB’s Energy Transition Leadership programme is both timely and highly relevant to that process – we look forward to taking part.”
The programme will allow participation at different levels of academic qualification, from Certificate of Attendance (CoA), to Postgraduate certificate or diploma (PGCert/PGDip), and Master of Science (MSc). Modules will include global energy markets, energy transition barriers, renewable energy technologies, energy policy, sustainability and circular economy, teamwork, personal development and leadership, and energy systems integration.
