Germany’s economy ministry has rejected plans by the European Commission for an additional levy for industrial firms as unacceptable.
It would mean industrial firms generating their own power to help pay for renewable energy.
According to reports, the ministry used dramatic language to suggest the plans could cost German industry €760million per year if the plans were only implemented in part.
A letter sent to Brussels said it would “lead to massive inadvertent structural disruption and further de-industrialisation” in Europe’s biggest economy.
