Babcock has been awarded a contract to build two offshore transformer modules for SSE’s Beatrice windfarm off the Scottish coast.
The contract was awarded by Siemens.
The transformers will each be capable of handling 300MW of capacity.
They will be delivered by the company’s Rosyth yard on the Firth of Forth during the first half of 2018.
The deal is expected to involve around 60 skilled workers.
Beatrice is scheduled to start operating in 2019.
Ian Donnelly, managing director for energy and marine services for Babcock, said:“The skills and experience our people bring to the energy sector have been recognised by Siemens and that can only be a positive thing for our company, our employees and the long-term future of our Rosyth facility as Babcock continues to build a solid reputation and a significant presence in the offshore energy sector.”
