Statoil is said to be looking at a renewables project around Hawaii.
According to reports in Norwegian media, the company has made the move after the State Bureau of Ocean Energy Management invited interest from companies.
It’s understood the Norwegian operator, Hawaii Offshore Wind and AW Hawaii Wind Progression, all expressed interest.
A spokeswoman for Statoil said Hawaii was a region of “great interest” for the firm.
She added there was the possibility of floating offshore wind in the region.
