Spanish company Navantia has assembled the first blocks to form the spars of Statoil’s 30MW Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind demonstration project.
The work is being carried out at Navantia’s Fene shipyard.
The demo project will be located 30km off the coast of northeast Scotland.
It will consist of five 6MW Siemens turbines and is scheduled to come online next year.
The Statoil project will see five turbines operate in waters around 12-18 miles off the coast of the coast of Peterhead.
The project has a total capacity of 30 megawatts.
The tubrines are due to be erected next year and the first power generated at the end of next year.
