The turbines for a new 150 megawatt onshore wind farm in Canada started spinning today.
Hamburg-based turbine maker Senvion said the Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n wind farm in Quebec would generate enough electricity to supply 50,000 homes.
The project is an equal partnership between Innergex and the three Mi’gmaq communities located on the territory of Gespe’gewa’gi: Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj.
Forty-seven Senvion turbines are in use at the site.
They were built by LM Wind Power and Marmen, both based in Quebec.
Helmut Herold, CEO at Senvion North America, says: “We are honoured to supply the leading First Nations windfarm in Canada. In doing so, we are committed to maximizing our economic and social contribution to the community by hiring and training local people.
“At the same time, Senvion is passionate about delivering the best technology to make wind energy even more competitive and affordable.”
