The US solar industry’s top lobbying group has named energy policymaker Abigail Ross Hopper as its new chief executive.
Hopper will join the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) after having served as the director the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) for two years.
There, she had been responsible for leasing and permitting oil, gas and offshore wind projects.
She will replace Rhone Resch who stepped down in May last year after 12 years’ in the top job.
Hopper said she has spent her career “working with all sides of the political and ideological spectrum to arrive at pragmatic approaches to energy policy.”
SEIA has been instrumental in garnering federal government support for solar power, including winning a five year extension of the industry’s federal tax credit at the end of 2015.
