Saudi Arabia will start the tendering process for a huge programme of renewable energy projects in the near future, a news report said.
Renewables contribute just 1% to the Kingdom’s energy mix and Riyadh wants to increase that to 4% by 2020.
The programme, which would produce 10 gigawatts of power, is expected to require investment of between $30billion and $50billion through 2023, Reuters reported.
According to the report, Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said the bidding would begin in the coming weeks.
Mr al-Falih was also cited as saying that Saudi Arabia was examining ways of connecting its renewables projects to Egypt, Jordan and Yemen.
