Scotland’s energy minister today granted planning consent for a 10 turbine Highland wind farm project that is expected to create at least 40 jobs.
Falck Renewables Wind will develop the Millennium South scheme 5miles west of Fort Augustus.
Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse said the wind farm would generate up to £4million in community benefit and produce enough power for 20,000 homes.
It is an extension to the operational Millennium Wind Farm.
The construction phase will support 40 to 50 full time jobs, while up to two workers will be needed during its operational period.
Mr Wheelhouse said: “Renewable energy sources generated a record 56.7% of gross electricity consumption in Scotland in 2015, helping support our world-leading ambitions to become a low-carbon economy.
“The growth of onshore wind in recent years has been a key factor in the expansion of renewable energy in Scotland: creating jobs, providing secure and low-carbon energy and delivering significant local benefits and it will remain a key contributor to our continued transition to a low carbon energy system, supported by a range of renewable energy technologies.”
