Union bosses are calling for “urgent safety action” after a man was killed on a Scottish Power windfarm – the first death of its kind in 25 years.
The tragedy occurred on March 15 when Antonio Linares a 37 year old Portuguese worker, was killed after plunging to his death at Scottish Power’s Kilgallioch Windfarm in South Ayrshire.
It is understood Mr Linares was working for contractor Gamesa when the accident happened at an under construction turbine.
Another incident involving a Spanish man who died on March 29 at Scottish Power’s Whitelee Windfarm is not being treated as suspicious.
A Scottish Power Renewables spokesperson said: “There has been one work related fatality at our windfarm sites in the last 25 years.
“This is being thoroughly investigated, and we take any safety incident extremely seriously.
“The incident at Whitelee is not being treated as an industrial accident by the authorities, and the cause of this tragic death is not connected to an operational incident at the windfarm.”
