The substation topside for E.ON’s Rampion wind farm project has made the voyage from Rosyth to the south coast of England.
Babcock International Group won the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the 2,000 tonne topside in 2015.
It was first major wind farm contract secured by Babcock’s Rosyth base.
The firm said the structure had made the 500 nautical mile trip to the Rampion site, where it will be placed on the jacket foundation ahead of hook-up and commissioning.
Babcock subcontracted Dutch firm HSM Offshore to build the jacket, which was completed in September and has since been installed at the Rampion site off the coast of Sussex.
Ian Donnelly, managing director at Babcock’s Rosyth site, said: “We are very proud of our work on the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm project, our very first wind farm contract at our Rosyth facility, which reinforces our commitment to the offshore wind industry.
“A combination of the skills of our people, balanced with a wealth of engineering experience gathered over many years, has been key to production of this component.
“With two other wind farm contracts currently underway and future potential work through the latest UK Contract For Difference (CFD) round, it’s an exciting time for Rosyth and our Renewables team.”
