Beatrice Offshore Wind Limited is has made its first round of awards to support transformational projects in Caithness, Sutherland and Moray from its new £6million Beatrice Community Fund.
Work is under way on the £2.6billion 588MW Beatrice Offshore Windfarm in the Moray Firth, which will be completed in 2019.
Phase one of the SSE-backed award scheme will see an initial sum of £378,000 donated to 14 different projects from across the north of Scotland.
These include the Morayvia science and technology centre and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Centre in Moray which received grants of £50,000 and £46,544 respectively.
Another beneficiary of the fund is the iconic Covesea Lighthouse in Moray which has received £40,000 to enable the community owned landmark to complete an Education and Heritage Centre.
Built in 1846 the 118ft-high lighthouse guided ships away from danger during 166 years of distinguished service until 2012, when its light was finally extinguished.
Other projects benefiting include more than £33,000 to The Embo Trust to renovate the old school for use as a community centre, and £36,000 to the Pultneytown People’s Project for training volunteers for the delivery of social care.
