A native of Anguilla has developed a unique wave energy system that has the potential to give his island energy independence.
Jibri Lewis, a 22-year-old MIT student from the Caribbean island, constructed his own prototype to harness the power of the ocean.
His design may not have won him a science competition but it earned him a grant from the governor’s office which allowing him to construct a larger scale replica of the device and then patent it.
Along with others, bioWAVE an Australian company bought the concept and developed a much bigger replica scheduled to test in Puerto Rico this year.
