Solar power suppliers face a tough test in the US today as an eclipse will plunge their units into darkness.
The US’s huge energy demand is supported by around 5% solar power.
Solar farm owners and operators have been gearing up for the eclipse for years and will be closely monitoring systems later today when the moon positions itself in front of the sun.
The ‘blackout’ will see a drop in power, with standby systems and backup power supplies then kicking in.
