A new inforgraphic released by RS Components reveals that some of the major cities in the world would need to give up a lot of space to power entirely through solar energy.
Though renewable energy is fast becoming an important tool to fight climate change and reduce countries reliance on fossil fuels, this new infographic shows that the square meter of land required would be much larger than first thought.
Paris is the most power hungry city in the world, requiring 44.2% coverage by solar panels, while Seoul in South Korea would require 41.9% and New York City with a surprisingly low 26.5%.
London ranked eighth as it needs to give up 138 km2 out of its 1,572km2 to solar panels to provide power to its 8,787,892 strong population.
The top three cities requiring the least panel to area percentage are Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Nairobi, Kenya and Khartoum in Sudan.
