The Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm has submitted an application to the Scottish Ministers to increase the megawatt capacity and extend to the turbine height.
The application seeks to increase the turbine rated capacity from 6-8MW to 8.4MW, while ensuring that the ‘maximum generation capacity does not exceed 50MW.
The wind farm also wished to extend the turbine hub height from 100 meters to 105 meters.
As a consequence, other parts, such as turbine blade length, tip height, rotor diameter, blade width and rotation speed may also have to be increased.
All variations, however, as subject to an environmental impact assessment under the Electricity Works Regulations 2017.
The Langdykes Road facility will receive power to shore from the 48MW offshore project.
Pilot Energy, who were unavailable for comment, and Atkins will develop the project.
All work must be completed by October 2018 to be accredited under Scotland’s 3.5 Renewables Obligation.
