Two MP’s write to local authorities after only 5 UK councils take advantage of electric vehicle (EV) funding scheme.
According to a government statement, £4.5million goes unclaimed from a cash pot that’s been available since 2016.
Ministers Jesse Norman and Clair Perry have contacted local councils up and down the country to urge them to use the money to buy and install electric vehicle charging points within local authority areas.
The funding is designed to allow councils to claim up to 75% of the cost of installation.
Transport Minister, Jesse Norman said: “We are in the early stages of an electric revolution in the UK transport sector, and connectivity is at its heart.
“Millions of homes in the UK do not have off-street parking, so this funding is important to help local councils ensure that all their residents can take advantage of this revolution.”
The available money was intended to be used to convert existing street lamp posts into working EVcharge points within cities and towns.
