Oil and gas giant Shell is thought to be considering a bid for a Dutch sustainable energy group, a news report said.
French energy major Total is also weighing up an offer, Dutch newspaper Telegraaf reported.
Neither Eneco nor Shell would confirm whether a bid had been made when contacted by Energy Voice.
An Eneco spokesman said: “We are not commenting on this this at the moment. I know that there will be bids but I couldn’t say where they’re from.”
The reported deal would see Shell pay about €3billion to the 53 local councils who currently own the company, according to Telegraaf.
Telegraaf reported that 75% of local councils back the sale.
