Drax Electric Insights have pooled data provided by the National Grid and Elexon to show that power from wind turbines has been responsible for the lionshare of UK energy supplies.
Over the last few days as the Beast from the East has gripped the UK, wind had been providing the greatest amount of electricity supplies.
Today, wind is narrowly outdoing gas by providing 13GW to the grid (27%) whereas gas is providing 12.6GW (26.9%).
Coal is currently supplying 22.4% (10.6GW) of electricity supply to the grid while nuclear has supplies 13.7% (6.4GW).
As the National Grid warns of a deficit in UK gas supplies, the growth of wind energy in the UK is alleviating some of the strain currently on the grid.
