The “biggest ever” leg encircling crane (LEC) has been installed on an offshore platform in a Dutch port.
Huisman’s 1600 tonne LEC has been installed on Van Oord’s installation vessel Aeolus, which has been designed for constructing wind farms.
The crane, which is specifically designed for a jack-up vessel, will allow the Aeolus to install heavier foundations for offshore turbines.
It was put in place on Wednesday in Rotterdam by Hereema’s Thialf semi-submersible.
