The Clean Energy Regulator for Australia yesterday announced that the country has seen 3.5million household solar panels installed in 2017.
According to the organization’s Renewable Energy Scheme data, more than 1057MW were hooked up to the grid last year.
The 3.5million total panels equates to 9500 installed each day across Australia.
Mark Williamson, Clean Energy Regulator Executive General Manager, said: “We are seeing a wide cross-section of Australians – households, community centres, schools, and small businesses – receiving incentives under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.”
“Our data shows consumers are embracing renewable energy to take control of their electricity bills.”
Suggested reasons for the increase are falling costs alongside larger capacity systems flooding into the market.
Mr Williams added: “The data collected by the Clean Energy Regulator in 2017 reflects the industry is going from strength to strength. It looks like 2018 will be another big year for the solar industry.”
