The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released fresh data today showing that global renewable generation capacity doubled between 2007 and 2017.
The data supplied by IRENA shows that hydropower, wind and solar energy and bioenergy have all increased capacity year on year from 2007 until last year.
IRENA say they have compared all report data concerning generation capacity from a variety of sources and that the data shows a growth over a ten year period nearly 2,000 gigawatts (GW).
Asia accounted for the largest capacity growth globally (37%), with Europe following close behind with North America in third place accounting for about 20% each.
