IT’S a Christmas delivery that even Santa Claus might struggle with.
But this 75-tonne load of oil industry equipment was transported by just two lorries at the weekend.
The large load set out from Invergordon on Saturday afternoon, heading north along the A9 Inverness to Thurso road. It comprised subsea equipment from Isleburn, which has premises at Inverbreakie Estate, Invergordon. The firm is part of Global Energy Group, which recently bought the Nigg fabrication yard.
Escorted by police, it took four hours to make its way slowly up through Easter Ross and Sutherland, stopping at the notorious Berriedale Braes section overnight.
Officers blocked off junctions as the load went past.
The journey continued yesterday when at 11.30am the load continued up the A9 to Wick, before heading towards Castletown.
Traffic was disrupted along the way, with many vehicles ending up queuing behind the load as it wound its way north.
A police spokeswoman said yesterday that there were no problems during the journey.
No one from Isleburn could be contacted yesterday.
