Onshore construction is now underway at Triton Knoll’s windfarm in Lincolnshire, as part of a two year programme managed by German developer Innogy SE.
Work commenced yesterday on the 35 mile underground electrical export cable off the A16 road near Stickney in Lincolnshire, which will provide enough sustainable power to more than 800,000 homes upon completion.
This will run from the landfall location North of Anderby Creek, where the onshore and offshore cables connect, and finish at the National Grid Bicker Fen Substation, where the electricity from the offshore windfarm will connect to the grid.
J Murphy and Sons and Siemens Transmission and Distribution are contracted to build the onshore electrical connections, including the new substation near Bicker that the cable route runs through.
Other works include the building of site offices, temporary construction compounds and bell-mouths.
The completed project will have an installed generation capacity of around 860 megawatts (MW) and is expected to be fully operational by 2022.
Work on the offshore infrastructure is due to begin next year.
