Simec Atlantis Energy said today that two faulty turbines on its MeyGen project had returned to action.
The company said in July that the pair of Andritz Hammerfest Hydro (AHH) turbines had developed generator glitches and would need to be recovered.
They are now generating at full capacity.
Meanwhile, Atlantis’ 1.5MW turbine has been retrieved for ancillary systems maintenance.
It will be taken to the Atlantis operations base at Nigg Energy Park for servicing before being returned to the MeyGen site during the December tidal window.
MeyGen, in the Pentland Firth between Caithness and Orkney, is the world’s largest tidal stream array.
The project completed its construction and commissioning phase in March 2018.
Atlantis has also hired Andy Richardson as its chief operating officer.
He previously held roles as head of asset management and engineering manager at Alstom Power Service UK and director of thermal generation at EDF.
