A NORTH-EAST MSP is attempting to get to the bottom of what assurances were given to Donald Trump over a planned windfarm.
The US tycoon claims he was told by the Scottish Government that the planned offshore windfarm off Aberdeen would not go ahead and ruin the view from his golf development at the Menie Estate.
The Scottish Government said if any assurances were given it was prior to the SNP taking power in 2007.
Labour’s Lewis Macdonald has lodged parliamentary questions to see what guarantees were given by the current administration.
He said: “According to the SNP the Menie application was determined according to planning procedures.
“Yet Donald Trump has written to Alex Salmond saying he had repeated assurances about the impact of the development over the past five years. I believe the first minister has to come clean on what he or his officials said to Mr Trump about the proposed windfarm when his planning application to construct a golf course, hotel and housing development at Menie estate was determined.
“I want to focus specifically on any discussions they had with the Trump Organisation between May 2007 and August of this year when they have been in government.
“We need to know if Trump sought assurances from the incoming government and if he got assurances there would be no windfarm development in Aberdeen Bay.”
Green MSP Patrick Harvie has lodged a motion voicing concern at Mr Trump’s assertion he was repeatedly promised that wind turbines would not destroy the coastline.
North-east SNP MSP Mark McDonald has lodged an amendment to the motion, stating it was understood Mr Trump’s claims refer to events prior to the election of Alex Salmond as first minister and the current administration in 2007.
It supports the statement from the government that the planning applications will be determined on their own merits.
