Danish firm LM Wind Power has announced the creation of the world’s first turbine blade to surpass 100 meters.
The wind component manufacturer said the 107m blade is able to withstand more than 20 years of offshore operation.
LM Wind Power announced the launch of the blade as it competed the moulding process at its factory in Cherbourg, France.
The blade will be part of the General Electric (GE) Haliade-X 12 MW offshore wind turbine, which is set to be the world’s most powerful turbine.
Alexis Crama, LM Wind Power vice president for offshore, said: “This achievement was made possible by our team of highly passionate people developing technology and manufacturing processes, to revolution yet again the offshore wind industry with ever-larger and more reliable rotor blades – thus capturing more wind and ultimately delivering an even lower levelized cost of energy.”
