ENERGY service group 3Sun is looking to expand its Scottish and European operations after opening offices in Aberdeenshire and Norway.
The Norfolk-based firm, founded in 2007, has moved into Westhill outside Aberdeen and is opening a new base in Bergen, Norway.
It is looking to double its turnover by the end of 2011, to £15million, after buying a 75% stake in Oban-based windfarm engineering business Dawson Energy last year. Some 35 new staff have been taken on in the past two months and it is anticipated the company will employ more than 200 staff by the end of the year.
Group managing director Graham Hacon said: “3sun started primarily providing control and instrumentation products and services to the oil and gas industry.
“Last January, we moved quickly into the renewable market and in August last year acquired our main competitor Dawson Energy, which provides staff technicians for the erection and maintenance on major wind projects.
“We did not take on a static business but one which brought us additional capability and capacity, and a new revenue stream through the market for turbine-related inspection services.”
Mr Hacon added: “I am overwhelmed with the success to date, which equates to a 28% increase on forecast monthly turnover, and look forward to the foreseeable future.”
The firm does work for companies including Siemens and Scottish and Southern Energy in offshore wind and BP and Canadian Natural Resources in North Sea oil and gas.
As well as expanding overseas and in Scotland, it is also looking to double the size of its sites in East Anglia after winning four long-term contracts off the region’s coast.
Earlier this year, the company launched a new business division – 3sun Inspection Services.
Willie Dawson, founder of Dawson Energy, will head up the new base in Bergen, as operations director.
The Oban base will be run by Adrian Macklin and Angela Tosh has been appointed business development manager in Aberdeen.
