A group of business leaders from the growing offshore wind industry have been named as heading up a task force to reduce costs in the sector.
The industry-led Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Task Force will be chaired by Andrew Jamieson, current chairman of industry-body Renewable UK.
Others on the group include industry leaders from turbine manufacturers Gamesa, Siemens and Vestas but also supply chain firms including Aberdeen-based Wood Group and Technip.
Lloyds Banking Group, law firm Eversheds and energy company Centrica also have members on the task force.
The task force was announced as part of the Government’s renewable energy roadmap in July.
Its aim is to set out an action plan to reduce the costs of offshore wind to £100 per MWh by 2020.
It is to report to the Department for Energy and Climate Change ministers by spring 2012.
