More than 200 people are due to attend Scotland’s largest marine energy conference in Inverness next week.
About 30 exhibitors will be at the event, which will focus on how the industry moves from research and development and pre-commercial testing into full commercialisation.
The Scottish Government has a target of 800MW of wave and tidal energy installed by 2020 in its renewables routemap.
Johanna Yates, policy manager for offshore wind, wave and tidal at event organiser Scottish Renewables, said: “This year so far has proved to be pivotal for the wave and tidal sector with real progress coming in terms of steel in the water and new players entering the market.
“With a real focus on collaboration and technology, we are gearing up for discussion and practical actions coming for the conference debates.”
Calum Davidson, director of energy and low carbon at Highlands and Islands Enterprise, which is supporting the event, said: “Scotland and the Highlands and Islands in particular are truly leading the world in marine energy development and deployment.
“We have huge supply chain opportunities here in the Highlands and Islands for the offshore renewables industry and we want to ensure we are best placed to maximise the economic and community benefits this presents.”
Industry experts will speak at the event and there will also be workshops designed to help support the growth of the Scottish marine sector.
SR Renewables Marine Conference is at the Eden Court Theatre on Monday and Tuesday.
