CAMPAIGNERS against a windfarm on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park will take their protests to the doorstep of Highland Council next week.
The Save the Monadliath group will stage a demonstration at the local authority’s Glenurquhart Road headquarters in Inverness, on November 8 – the day councillors are due to discuss the plans for the Allt Duine development for the first time.
RWE-npower Renewables wants to build 31 turbines at Allt Duine on the Alvie, Dalraddy and Dunachton estates, near Kincraig.
The 410ft structures will be 440 yards from the Cairngorms National Park’s western boundary.
An online petition against the development has gained hundreds of signatures. Broadcaster and mountaineer Cameron McNeish has also voiced opposition.
Members of the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey planning committee will give their reaction to the plans, but the ultimate decision on the development will be made by Scottish ministers.
A spokesman for Save the Monadliath said yesterday: “A huge amount is at stake and it is crucial that the proposal is assessed thoroughly.
“The only way to guarantee a thorough assessment is for the application to be heard at a full public inquiry. The only way to guarantee a full public inquiry is for the committee to object.”
