Foster Wheeler’s Glasgow operation has performed a range of work for more than 40 years.
It has delivered upstream oil and gas, refining, chemicals and petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, gas storage and clean energy projects across Scotland and Norway, as well as in a wide range of other international locations.
Within the last decade, successes in Norway include the contract award by Aibel to provide engineering and procurement services to extend the life of existing platforms in the Greater Ekofisk area in the Norwegian North Sea for ConocoPhillips.
The contract has since been further extended to continue providing longer- term engineering services that support Aibel.
The reputation of Foster Wheeler in Norway has been further recognised by Statoil which has awarded Glasgow operations the FEED framework agreement for the Kårstø development project 2013. The first of a series of FEEDs is for the Gudrun onshore modifications project, which includes design engineering services for modifications at the Kårstø plant.
Foster Wheeler also now has an expanded role on the Kårstø Development project 2013.
Along with Foster Wheeler’s FEED role, Statoil has appointed Aibel as the main EPC contractor. Aibel, in turn, has awarded the complementary engineering contract to Glasgow operations to support its EPC delivery.
The Glasgow operation specialises in the execution of small-to-medium-sized projects within the UK and overseas markets.
It has a total project execution capability and experience ranging from conceptual studies through feasibility, front-end engineering design (FEED) and project cost estimation phases to full detailed design, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and commissioning project delivery.
Securing projects in a highly competitive manner, with a cost base that reflects its flat organisation structure and flexible working practices, it has a scale of operations that provide focus and responsiveness in project delivery. Frazer Mackay, managing director, UK operations, Foster Wheeler, said: “We are delighted to be selected to support both Aibel and Statoil in these significant investments.
“We are very proud of our own long and successful oil and gas track record and this relationship reflects the complementary oil and gas and project execution skills of the three organisations.”
Steffen Kristensen, project manager with Statoil, said: “Since the award of the FEED framework agreement in 2010, Statoil has built a very effective working relationship with Foster Wheeler.
“The project teams from both companies are operating as an integrated organisation and to date have successfully delivered three high-quality projects, safely, on time and under budget.
“We are working well together and I hope that this relationship will go from strength to strength with further FEED work and the subsequent progression of these projects.”
Mr Mackay added: “One of our key strengths is our ability to develop and execute projects in challenging conditions, both technically and geographically.
“We have a strong, well- established, story to tell about our work in Norway and the key role that Glasgow operations has played in the historical development of our services to the oil and gas, refining and petrochemical sectors.
“We are pleased to have a presence and capability recognised over many years by prestigious clients for developing their projects to exacting standards across both Scotland and Norway.”
