Industry professionals will gather in Inverness next week to discuss how developments in Scotland’s electricity grid network can benefit the renewable-energy sector.
The REact event has been organised by Energy North, the representative body for the energy industry in the Highlands and islands, and takes place in the Drumossie Hotel on Thursday, February 16.
Those attending will hear at first-hand how transmission upgrades are progressing from key speakers including utility group SSE’s Mike Barlow, Martin Moran from National Grid and Greg Riddle, of Balfour Beatty.
Kate MacDonald, of intellectual-property specialist Capella IP and the Crown Estate’s John Callaghan will also give presentations on developments in marine renewables.
Energy North chief executive Ian Couper said: “Lack of capacity in the National Grid has been the greatest threat to the development of the renewable-energy sector in the north of Scotland to date.
“With work now under way on Beauly to Denny and Ofgem’s recent £7.6billion National Grid infrastructure investment, we can look forward to a significant boost in capacity which will enable many more renewables developments – both on and offshore.”
Energy North has more than 150 members based throughout the Highlands islands, Aberdeenshire and Argyll.
