More than 8,000 people are expected to descend on Aberdeen today and tomorrow for this year’s All-Energy show.
More than 580 exhibitors, 180 of them from the Granite City and Aberdeenshire and others from more than 20 countries worldwide, are participating in the event, running at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Tonight, more than 1,000 people are also expected to gather at Aberdeen City Council’s civic reception.
Giving his first public address as Aberdeen’s lord provost this morning, councillor George Adam will say: “All-Energy has gone from strength to strength, growing steadily year on year.
“This year sees the largest show yet and really showcases Aberdeen as a leading energy city with a huge amount of expertise, skill, technology and knowledge in the energy and renewables sector.”
Jamie Thompson, event manager at Reed Exhibitions, said: “We are looking forward to two extremely busy and highly stimulating days, and news of some highly positive outcomes.
“Over 580 exhibitors from up to 20 countries; over 300 speakers in our conference and seminars; some fascinating and highly relevant associated events, and our incomparable giant networking evening.
“All designed with one thought in mind, getting buyers and sellers, specifiers, suppliers and developers all under one roof to share their aims, objectives and business opportunities.”
Of the north-east firms, 55 will be exhibiting as part of the Areg Aberdeen City and Shire pavilion.
The city council will also be exhibiting on the low-carbon region in the North Sea and Getabout stands.
Businesses from the Highlands and islands are also featuring, and in record numbers.
Some 76 firms have come together under the banner of HI-Energy to showcase the region’s renewable energy expertise and supply chain capabilities in regional pavilions from Orkney, Shetland, Caithness and Argyll.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise, which manages the HI-Energy pavilion, said the past three years had seen a record number of firms from the region taking part in All-Energy; since 2009 it has increased almost 60%, it said.
The exhibition will also include zones dedicated to offshore maintenance and smart energy, with 48 sessions covering aspects of renewable energy, its opportunities and challenges, through seven parallel sessions.
The event organisers have also this year introduced exhibition trails, to help people to get around areas of specific interest.
The conference continues tomorrow.
