A delegation of Chinese wind farm equipment manufacturers have been visiting East Anglia today with a view to setting up production in the region.
The 29-strong delegation, from Jiangsu province in China, is on a two-day visit to the region, home to the proposed East Anglia Array, the Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm and Scroby Sands offshore wind farm, commissioned in 2004.
Jiangsu is known as a focal point for the Chinese offshore wind energy industry.
The delegation is visiting East Port in Great Yarmouth, a business networking event at the OrbisEnergy Centre in Lowestoft and will be at an evening event in Norwich Castle.
This will be followed by a tour of sites of strategic importance in Essex later in the week.
The visit is thought to be aimed at looking at the potential to invest in the production of offshore wind farm equipment along the East of England Energy Zone, as well as opportunities for UK businesses to support developments in China, said Suffolk County Council.
By 2020, offshore wind in the East of England is predicted to be worth £23 billion with the potential of creating tens of thousands of new jobs, it said.
Suffolk is already benefiting from investment from China. The Port of Felixstowe is owned by Chinese-owned company Hutchison Whampoa. The company recently invested £300 million to expand the quayside at Felixstowe.
