Scira seeks to maximise windfarm access with new technology
Scira Offshore Energy, operator of the Sheringham Shoal offshore windfarm, has decided to employ a new UK-designed vessel transfer system to provide its windfarm technicians with safer and more reliable access to wind turbines in up to 2m significant wave height.
This new transfer system, reviewed recently in Energy and known as MaXccess and produced by Northumberland-based OSBIT Power Limited, has recently been on extensive trials in Norway, utilising Statoil’s Hywind demonstration floating wind turbine.
MaXccess differs from existing vessel transfer systems in that it has been engineered to restrain bow motions vertically and horizontally while allowing the vessel to roll, pitch and yaw freely therefore extending the wave height limit of personnel transfers for a range of vessel types.
The system is designed to enable a fitted workboat to quickly clamp on to a turbine and operate at low power while technician and cargo transfers take place in a controlled and safe manner.
