Jack-up vessel owner and operator Seajacks has placed an estimated £77.8million order for a fourth vessel with UAE construction firm Lamprell.
The order comes weeks after the firm’s third vessel, Zaratan, slipped out of Dubai, where it was built by Lamprell.
The contract covers the engineering, procurement and construction of a modified Gusto MSC NG 2500X self-elevating and self-propelled jack up for the oil and gas and offshore wind farm installation and maintenance markets.
The new vessel, to be called Seajacks Hydra, is due to be delivered in 2014, said Lamprell.
Kevin Alcock, vice president of new build projects at Seajacks, said: “Hydra will become the fourth vessel in our fleet and is part of our long term growth plan following the acquisition of the company by Marubeni and INCJ earlier this year.
“As part of that plan we are already working on the design and specification of vessel five.”
Earlier this year the firm said it would like to order three new units this year – a move which would double its fleet to six.
