Despite the UK Government’s decision to cut the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for solar panels earlier this year, businesses and households are increasingly turning to the renewable technology to cut their bills.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, a typical household system costs around £7,700 to instal but homeowners will save about £90 a year on their energy bill and pocket more than £450 of income through the FiT scheme and selling surplus electricity to the National Grid. Despite the belief photovoltaic panels are not as effective in Scotland because of colder weather and changes to the FiT scheme, Scottish Renewables said solar was still an attractive investment, adding that an average of 300 solar panels had been installed every week for the past 12 months.
