Housing Minister Keith Brown will hear about an innovative partnership between Huntly Development Trust and Grampian Housing Association today during a visit to Huntly.
The minister will be told the joint approach could see between 50 and 400 new affordable rent homes built using the income from a local wind turbine project.
During a visit to the development trust’s town-centre office he will learn about a series of schemes launched to regenerate Huntly and district through development of renewable energy and wider community projects.
A partnership between the trust and housing association was launched in February to provide investment in affordable housing and over the next few years could lead to the development of a range of wind, hydro and biomass projects.
Huntly Development Trust and Grampian Housing Association have been invited to address the Development Trusts Association Scotland conference being held next month at Cumbernauld.
Trust chairman Richard Hammock said yesterday: “We are delighted to welcome the minister to Huntly to explain what we are trying to achieve through our collaboration with Grampian Housing Association.
“Working with the association will help realise community ambitions for the regeneration of Huntly and surrounding area.”
The minister’s visit to Huntly coincides with a meeting of Aberdeenshire councillors to decide on an application for planning permission to a windfarm project at Cairnborrow.
