A series of meetings are being held to gather views about offshore renewable energy.
The Scottish Government said information would be provided on the planning process and how the country can use offshore wind, wave and tidal energy.
Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead said renewable energy potential was behind the government’s plans to generate the equivalent of all the country’s electricity needs by 2020.
“We are at an early stage in identifying potential locations for offshore renewable projects,” he said. “It’s very important the views of communities are carefully considered, as we want to answer any questions and be open and accessible about how these plans are being progressed.”
“I would encourage all those with an interest to come along to the meetings taking place, find out more and take the opportunity to share their views.
“I am confident that by working in partnership with local communities we can successfully meet our ambitions to make Scotland a greener nation.”
The public meetings are being organised by Marine Scotland. The first are on Tuesday at Kirkwall Town Hall and Wednesday at the Carmelite Hotel, Aberdeen. Others are on September 27 at the Bayhead Bridge Centre, Stornoway, and September 28 at the Crown Court Townhouse Hotel, Inverness.
