Developers behind Scotland’s largest renewable-energy project have submitted plans for the first phase of a potential £10billion wind array off the east coast.
Seagreen Wind Energy is seeking consents from Marine Scotland to erect up to 150 turbines in two separate windfarm developments off the Angus coast.
The £3billion windfarms – named Project Alpha and Project Bravo – would have a collective output of 1.05 gigawatts, enough to power more than 750,000 homes.
The proposed windfarms are just the first part of a three-phase 3.5GW scheme that could see Seagreen instal more than 500 turbines in a development zone.
Seagreen would not comment on the likely capital cost of the project but with a notional figure of around £3billion per installed gigawatt, the plans could top £10billion.
