Staff from international oil services and technology company AGR have run the circumference of Earth in aid of the charity Doctors Without Borders.
Nine months ago, AGR’s CEO Sverre Skogen launched the company’s latest staff campaign – AGR Run the World.
This challenged its offices to run or walk the circumference of the world throughout 2012 – 24,901.55 miles – in aid of international charity Doctors Without Borders.
Two months before of the deadline, it has smashed the target by more than 500 miles, reaching an impressive 25,401.55 miles.
Mr Skogen said: “As an international oil and gas services and technology company, we continually have to push boundaries and better ourselves, so Run the World seemed to be a fitting campaign.
“It has not only united our staff but allowed us to achieve something amazing during what has undoubtedly been an inspiring year for international sport.
“Not many companies can say they have collectively travelled round the world by foot, and then some, so I’m extremely proud that we came together to reach this goal and I would like to thank and congratulate all AGR personnel for remaining motivated throughout.”
Staff are now being encouraged by their boss to keep going to see how many miles they can eventually cover by the end of the year.
That’s not a problem for the Aberdeen-based senior petroleum engineer, whose dedication to the cause has seen him rack up more than 1,500 miles which included tackling the gruelling 100-mile race along the River Thames earlier this year which he completed in 23 hours 30 minutes.
“This campaign has been brilliant for all of us, really motivating us to take up new leisure activities or simply do that bit more in order to achieve something great collectively,” said Jonathan Bellarby, 44, from Lyne of Skene.
“I travel extensively with my work through AGR and take the opportunity to run wherever I can. “In the last year, I’ve run in 15 countries with hill running in Alaska and marathons in Texas and Amsterdam, for example.
“The Run the World team has been great and I’ve loved sharing runs and comments with colleagues as we track and record our miles and see how people contribute to our success.”
