The world’s first investment bank dedicated to green energy will be officially launched in Scotland today.
Capitalised with £3billion, the arm’s-length Green Investment Bank opens in Edinburgh.
UK Government ministers Ed Davey, Vince Cable and Michael Moore will attend.
Mr Davey told the Press and Journal that the Liberal Democrats had pressed for the bank to be based in Scotland – and that the decision proves the value of keeping the UK together.
“Lib Dems were really clear it made sense to go to Edinburgh,” he said.
“Edinburgh has got two great attributes, it’s a financial centre in its own right and it’s well-placed in terms of energy and clean-tech investment. I think it sold itself.
“I think it does show the value of Scotland in the UK.
“I think the UK is stronger with Scotland in it and I think that Scotland is stronger by being part of the UK.
“I think with measures like the Green Investment Bank show how valuable the Union is to the Scottish economy and the UK economy.”
