A new wave energy test site off the souther west coast of England has had its first trial approved.
The Marine Management Organisation has given Cork-based OceanEnergy the green light to deploy and test an OEB35 OceanEnergy buoy wave device for a period of up to three years at Wave Hub.
It will be anchored and connected to the grid-connected Wave Hub 16 kilometres (10 miles) off the north coast of Cornwall.
It is said to be capable of generating up to 1 megawatt of electricity.
