Business advisory and accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael has a created a new expert team focussed on the energy transition.
Headed up by Mark Stewart, partner and lead of the company’s Edinburgh office, the Energy, Infrastructure and Sustainability (EIS) team will help advise clients on the opportunities arising from the fast-moving transition to a low carbon economy.
Graham Alexander and Alan Dick will also be part of the line-up, bringing their deep knowledge of the oil and gas industry to enable the firm to offer advice across all aspects of the energy transition.
Mr Stewart said: “The on-going drive to achieve net carbon zero presents a wealth of opportunities for our clients and we’ve created the new Energy, Infrastructure and Sustainability team to ensure our clients can benefit from our deep sector expertise and knowledge in this area.
“The team’s priority will be helping clients to navigate the decarbonisation agenda and support transformational change in the industry. That means developing infrastructure fit for a greener future and ensuring a smooth skills transition. Assisting clients to advance their environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies will also be a focus, as we increasingly see the business community being assessed on its environmental and social impact ahead of more traditional assessment metrics.”
The creation of the new team is part of a wider reshaping and strengthening of the firm’s sector focus to help clients navigate the emerging economic recovery.
These changes include appointing a number of new sector heads as well as combining and rebranding some of the existing sector specialist teams.
Sandy Manson, chairman, head of client service and partner at Johnston Carmichael, added: “We have always demonstrated real strength and depth in our knowledge of the key industries which underpin and drive our economy. However, as the economy and the market changes then so must we and our reshaped sector approach means that we will be able to bring an ever more focused and insightful approach in how we deploy our considerable sector expertise to benefit our clients in building successful and sustainable businesses.”
