Energy giant SSE said yesterday that a contractual dispute involving the Greater Gabbard offshore windfarm in the Thames Estuary had been settled.
The group said that Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds (GGOWL) and contractor Fluor had reached agreement on all outstanding claims relating to the construction of the development.
SSE β which owns 50% of GGOWL β said the main claim related to the quality of up to 52 upper foundations supporting turbines and the quality of up to 35 lower foundations supporting turbines.
All 140 turbines at the windfarm have been operational since September 2012.
SSE said GGOWL was now confident about the long-term structural integrity of the disputed foundations.
The terms of the deal announced yesterday have not been disclosed.
Iwan Tukalo, general manager at GGOWL, said: βThe agreement between GGOWL and Fluor is a positive development, bringing to an end the contractual dispute between the two parties. It is also encouraging that the windfarm has performed well since it was energised and our focus remains on ensuring it is a safe, efficient asset that makes a significant contribution to achieving the UK’s targets for renewable energy.β
The other partner in GGOWL is RWE npower renewables.
